Column: Frosty on the next generation

202columnfrosty

Mark Winterbottom has a first-hand view of the rise of the next generation of Supercars with the likes of Chaz Mostert, Cameron Waters, Richie Stanaway and Garry Jacobson emerging from his Prodrive Racing Australia team.

Winterbottom discusses the arrival of the next generation in Supercars in his latest column in V8X Supercar Magazine issue #100.

Issue #100 is on sale now in stores with the digital edition available in the official V8X app (in the App Store and Google Play), online at DigitalEdition.V8XMagazine.com.au and in the Magzter app store.

"Shane van Gisbergen has won a championship and is still very young, despite having been in the series for a decade. Scott McLaughlin, Chaz Mostert and Cameron Waters have come on strong in recent seasons and are genuine contenders," writes Winterbottom.

"The arrival of new talent challenging the established competitors is what makes sport so exciting. And, as a competitor, it keeps you on your toes and hungry for the challenge.

"Personally, even though I'm called a veteran for having been in the series for over a decade, I am still as hungry, fit and fast as I have ever been."

Winterbottom also discusses the prospects of changing cars into the Gen2 era of Supercars with continued speculation around if/when Ford teams will replace the FG X Falcon with the Mustang.

"While there's been a lot of discussion around the next generation of cars that will be raced into Gen2, there's also still a lot of life in the FG X Falcon," he says.

"Remember, we are only in the third season of running the FG X and we are still extracting speed from the car."
