Beating the heat

30 May, 2006

The quest for speed has always sacrificed driver comfort, and we don't mean removing the car radio and carpet. Windows are now fixed in place in a V8 Supercar in the hunt for an extra top end km/h or two, the consequence of this is the driver is strapped into an increasingly harsh cockpit. In Adelaide, some cars were recording cabin temperatures near the 70-degree mark and drivers were collapsing and being placed on drips for post-race re-hydration. Andrew Clarke takes a look at heat stress.

The Kingdom of Bahrain in the Persian Gulf is the most exotic stop in the 2006 V8 Supercar Championship series. And the island paradise is ready to roll out its best hospitality for Australian visitors.

A day at the Grand

30 May, 2006

It was kind odd being at the Australian Grand Prix one week after the Clipsal 500, and it threw up a few oddities because of it. Mark Skaife, Cam McConville, Craig Lowndes and James Courtney were all running in spare cars, and Greg Murphy wasn't running at all.

Craig the Likeable

17 Jun, 2006

Nine out of 10 motorsport experts agree that Craig Lowndes is the man most likely to take home the bacon this season. Last season was stellar in its revival of the Lowndes brand and the revitalisation of his fortunes. V8X talks to Lowndes about what makes him tick in 2006, and why he is always so happy.

EYE ON THE PRIZE

19 Jun, 2006

Contenders or pretenders? Based on results, the jury is still out on Paul Morris Motorsport. But six years after its establishment, Queensland's only Holden V8 Supercar operation and the man after whom it is named are more determined than ever to break through for success.

Interview: Ray Price

21 Jun, 2006

Ray who? That was the general response when Ray Price was announced as the new Ford Racing Manager, replacing the Nissan-bound Ross Booth. As it turns out Price is a motorsport fanatic with blue blood flowing through his veins. V8X caught up with him in his Campbellfield office to find out a little more about him and his plans.

V8 Superbrand

23 Jun, 2006

V8 Supercar racing is set for a massive profile boost this year. While you could be excused for thinking you've heard it all before, V8 Supercar Australia's new-look marketing team, headed by Richard Boland, says it has a fool-proof plan. V8X caught up with Boland for the lowdown on what the sport's marketing gurus are cooking up.

Desperate Househusband

25 Jun, 2006

What's a bloke supposed to do? V8X writer Andrew Clark got himself in a bit of a pickle last year, leaving him housebound during the Clipsal 500 waiting for his newest baby to arrive. As a self-confessed pitlane junkie going cold turkey, he needed to get his fix so we armed Clark with a telly and a PC. In the end, it turned out to be an enlightening weekend of Commonwealth Games, motor racing on the TV and the internet.
