Only eight weeks remain on the clock for the 2007/2008 Wallace Bishop Jewellers
National Photographic Competition.
The competition provides amateur and
professional photographers the opportunity to win more than $20,000 in cash and
prizes, simply by taking photos of the on and off track action at their local
drag racing strip and entering them online at
www.stuartbishopracing.com.au
Wallace Bishop Jewellers
CEO and pilot of the Stuart Bishop Racing Diamond Doorslammer, Stuart Bishop,
invited racing fans to get involved before time runs out, with entries
officially closing at 5.00pm Friday April 25th, 2008.
“There are two
categories available, one for Stuart Bishop Racing and one for drag racing
across the board, and I sincerely hope that anyone interested in drag racing
takes the chance to be involved and possibly win some great prizes,” said
Bishop.
“The feedback I have received since the inaugural running of
this competition has been all positive and we really want to grow things during
the 2008 version,” said Bishop.
“It’s all about the fans and giving them
the opportunity to assist with the progression of Australian drag racing and
also allows our team to give back to the sport that has provided all of us so
much joy.
“The whole idea with the Wallace Bishop Jewellers photographic
competition is to give regular race goers an interactive opportunity at any
track in the country and the chance to win some great prizes.
“Drag
racing is a true passion of mine and I hope everyone has their camera at the
ready at their local strip to take plenty of good shots to submit into the
competition.
“As has been illustrated in last year’s finalists and the
entires submitted so far this year, we are looking at genuine creativity and
something a little different with the images submitted. I encourage everyone to
get their thinking caps on and hope we can come up with an even better
collection of finalists by the time entries close in eight weeks.”
The
overall winning entry selected from all winners of each category will be awarded
a half carat 50-point diamond. This is an identical diamond to the one encased
in the roof of Stuart Bishop’s Diamond Doorslammer, which is situated somewhere
among the configuration of 540 cubic zirconia. In the inaugural 2006/2007
Wallace Bishop Jewellers National Photographic Competition, the overall prize
went to Mal Burgess for his winning entry 'Sainty Explosion'.
While only
eight weeks remain on the clock, there are plenty of opportunities still
remaining to get in on some drag racing action. The length and breadth of the
country will play host to a vast array of quarter mile drag racing action,
coordinated at the three major venues in Ipswich, Sydney and Perth, plus plenty
of smaller hotspots in between.
The competition will incorporate images
from Willowbank Raceway’s 40th Castrol EDGE Winternationals on June 8-10, 2007
through to Queensland’s Tin Top Titles on April 19.
Five finalists in
each category and subject area will be selected to be involved in a unique
public art exhibition at the Ipswich Art Gallery. Images will be exhibited
leading up to Willowbank Raceway’s 2008 Winternationals and extended through to
the end of July.
The exhibition will form a major component of the
Gallery’s annual participation in Ipswich’s Carnival of Horsepower that seeks to
promote the Ipswich Turf Club’s Ipswich Cup, Willowbank Raceway’s Castrol EDGE
Winternationals and the local V8 Supercar round. The winners in each category
will be announced at a special formal event at the Ipswich Art Gallery as an
official promotional event towards the 2008 Castrol EDGE Winternationals.
Full details of the Wallace Bishop photographic competition are
available at www.stuartbishopracing.com.au as is all the new up to date
information relevant to the SBR team and the ’67 Camaro Diamond Doorslammer.
