Alan Gurr will be on the grid for this weekend's
seventh round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at Queensland Raceway after
a massive repair job by his IRWIN Racing crew.
Gurr was involved in a heavy accident at the previous
round at Darwin 's Hidden Valley Raceway on June 24.
However, with the return travel of the team to Melbourne added-in, the crew had just three weeks to fix
and prepare for the Ipswich round.
A thorough repair plan was followed and the crew had
the IRWIN Racing Falcon back from the panel beaters a week ahead of departing
for Queensland .
The 25-year-old is hopeful that the fresh coat of
paint will bring a fresh start to the second-half of the season.
"I'm very grateful to all the guys on the crew to get
the car back in top shape for Queensland ," said Gurr.
"It's important to start this second half of the year
on a positive note and get some more points in the bank.
"We have said this before but we do need to put in a
strong qualifying performance. We need to at least make the second segment and
the top 20. From that point we can legitimately strive for points.
"I have plenty of experience of Queensland Raceway,
but I actually have not taken part in a full V8 Supercar Championship Series
round since 2002 when it was the Queensland 500."
Lead Engineer Greg Foletta has no doubt that the #26
Falcon will not be effected by the Darwin shunt.
"The repair work was extensive, but
importantly we got the car back from the panel beaters ahead of time and this
has not disrupted our final preparations," said Foletta.
"The car look very fresh with all new paint
and we aim to keep it that way.
"Queensland Raceway looks pretty simple from
the outside, but it's not an easy track to get the optimum set-up.
"Although Alan has only raced a full V8
Supercar round at the track once before, importantly he has raced other
categories and tested extensively at the circuit. This will mean that we can get
stuck into things from the outside and get the car up to speed
quickly."
Teams have an extended practice session on
Friday afternoon before qualifying and the opening 38-lap race. Sunday features
two more 38-lap races.
