One of Australian motorsports more glamorous pieces of high powered machinery
has been cast online with today’s launch of a revolutionary drag racing website
on behalf of Queensland businessman Stuart Bishop.
The Chief Executive
Officer of Wallace Bishop Jewellers, whose major hobby involves pushing his 3500
horsepower 1967 Chevrolet Camaro to its limits, took great pleasure today in
unveiling
www.stuartbishopracing.com.au Further adding that
unique touch to the website, Bishop has orchestrated an Australia-wide
photographic competition where junior, amateur and professional photographers go
in the running to win cash and prizes worth more than $20,000, courtesy of
Wallace Bishop Jewellers.
“No matter what I involve myself in, I always
strive to do the very best I can,” said Bishop.
“While I might be a
relative newcomer to the sport of drag racing, it has me hooked and I feel this
website is the best possible way to involve the fans in our Australian Top
Doorslammer campaign. It also allows everyone an insight into the team and to
know what plans we have for the future.
“We’ve spent a lot of time
developing the Diamond Doorslammer ’67 Camaro and while it’s primarily about
winning races I’ve also put a lot of thought into the aesthetic appeal of the
car.
“That’s very evident in the design of the website and I must thank
BAM Media for the time and effort they’ve put in to get the site up and running.
“It’s very timely to launch the site after we broke through for our
first Group One finals appearance at the recent Australian Nationals, in only
our second ever event contested.”
Very timely also is the introduction
of the Wallace Bishop Photographic competition where fans young and old are
encouraged to submit images taken at any drag racing event in Australia.
Two subject areas will form the focal interest area, drag racing
generally and of course Stuart Bishop’s Diamond Doorslammer.
Due to work
commitments Bishop’s own drag racing pursuits will be minimal during the 2006/07
season, but he is hopeful of travelling to Sydney for at least one Top
Doorslammer event.
He’ll also be involved in other major Queensland
motoring activities including the huge Lexmark Indy 300 carnival on the Gold
Coast from October 19-22.
“For me it’s about giving something back to a
sport that has provided a lot of joy in my life over the past few years,” added
Bishop.
“Drag racing is just such a great social event for the whole
family and any way I can assist in getting more people to the race track has to
be a good thing.
“There are plenty of events happening at the major
venues in Queensland, Sydney and Perth, plus all the other ANDRA sanctioned
tracks in Australia so I encourage everyone to get along and start putting
together some good shots and submit them through our new website.
“For
the Diamond Doorslammer we’ll be active on the Gold Coast during the next month
with the car on display at the Street Torque exhibition next weekend at
Parklands Showgrounds, before enjoying a presence during the massive Indy
program.”
