Ford racing hero, Craig Lowndes has declared his intentions of claiming
the
2006 V8 Supercar crown to make his 10th season perfect. 2006 marks
a
significant landmark in Lowndes' extraordinary career and as the V8
star
embarks on his 10th season, he would like nothing better than to regain
the
title that has eluded him in recent years. On debut in 1996,
Lowndes set
the Australian motor racing world on its ear, rocketing from
obscurity to
instant stardom and winning the coveted V8 crown in his first
three seasons.
The youngest-ever V8 Supercar champion, Lowndes is now a
veteran of the
sport at only 31 years of age and is currently enjoying a
return to his
rightful place as a leading series contender. Finishing
in the runner-up
position for 2005 with four round wins and five pole
positions, Lowndes
achieved his best-ever series result since making the move
to Ford. With
the continued momentum of the Triple Eight squad, Lowndes
is confident they
can take the Team Betta Electrical Falcon to championship
victory this year.
"Heading into my 10th V8 Supercar season, this really is the best shot
we've had at winning the
championship with Ford - the team structure, the
personnel, the equipment -
we've got all the ingredients to win," Craig
Lowndes said. "The Team
Betta Electrical Falcon is the best V8 Supercar I
have ever driven, bar
none." Reflecting on his career to date, Lowndes is
delighted with his
achievements both on and off-track. "It has been a
sensational decade
for me - three V8 Supercar Championships, a Bathurst win,
joining Ford, and
of course a wonderful family with Nat and our two kids -
so much has
happened," Lowndes said. "I've had a lot of highlights, but
it's been a
while between championship wins which has just made me hungrier
for success
and it would be great to wrap up my 10th V8 Supercar season on a
high.
"This year, I really want to give something back to Ford and all of
the fans
that have stuck with us through the tough times - it will be a
season-long
challenge, but we have prepared and we're ready to go for the
title."
