V8 Supercar Champion Marcos Ambrose (Pirtek Racing) has won round #6 of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at Queensland Raceway.

It was the first time that Ambrose had won the Queensland round, making it three-straight for his Stone Brothers Racing team and the fourth straight for Ford at the Willowbank circuit.

Leading away from pole position, the defending series champion led comfortably
into the first turn of the 90-lap race.

The same couldn't be said for the following pack with a multi-car accident involving six cars. John Bowe (OzEmail Racing), Steve Ellery (Super Cheap Auto Racing),
Steven Johnson (Shell Helix Racing), Greg Murphy, Paul Weel and Dale Brede were
all involved.

No one was injured in the pile-up, although many thousands of dollars of damage
was caused.

From the re-start at lap #10, Ambrose controlled the race. A major bonus came
on lap #49, when race contender Mark Skaife broke a left-rear hub, forcing him
off the track and out of the race.

Although the race featured another safety car just ten laps from the end, the
Tasmanian held his nerve to finish ahead of championship contender Steven Richards, with Garth Tander in third.

Importantly the result had has extended Ambrose's championship lead to 58 points "Perfect weekend, pole yesterday and finally my first win here at Stone Brothers
Racing's home track," said Ambrose.

"I've had four poles in-a-row here, but finally got that first win today.

"Great to extend the team's winning streak to three. I'm really pleased for the
team and Ford. We really came into this weekend with a commitment to win and
that's what we did.

"I really love winning, finishing second was not an option and to extend the
lead in the championship is great.

"It might have looked easy, but we were at 100 percent for the whole race. We
stuck to our plan with the pit stops, but with safety cars bunching the field
back up, we couldn't relax.

"With guys like Steven Richards, Garth Tander and Jason Bright around you, it's
important to get good re-starts and that was critical today.

"We hadn't won since round #1 in Adelaide, so it had been a little while, but
we're now back and looking forward to continuing the same form over the second
half of the season.

"I enjoyed today's single race format. It rewarded the best teams and drivers
We have the same situation in a few weeks at Winton".

Ambrose's teammate Russell Ingall (Caltex Havoline Racing) was as high as second,
but had to settle for fourth, while Paul Radisich (Team Betta Electrical) finished
a consistent run to be placed sixth.

The hard luck story was Glenn Seton (Ford Credit / FPV Ford Performance Racing),
who went into the second last lap in eighth place, before alternator problems
slowed him to finish 13th.

The next round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series will be at Winton Motor
Raceway in central Victoria on July 23 - 25.
